전북 정읍시는 오래되고 낡은 조형물을 철거하고 시장을 찾는 시민과 방문객에게 새로운 상징물을 선사하기 위해 시계탑을 제막했다고 30일 밝혔다.

 

제막식에는 이학수 시장과 정읍시의회 박 일 의장을 비롯 상인회 관계자 및 지역 주민 등이 참석한 가운데 성황리에 열렸다.

 

특히 100년 전통을 이어온 샘고을시장 역사와 앞으로의 발전 방향이 소개됐고 쾌적한 시장환경 조성을 위한 캠페인도 진행됐다.

 

이학수 정읍시장은 "지역 주민과 상인들의 염원을 담은 시계탑 설치를 계기로 샘고을시장이 시민들에게 사랑받는 공간으로 거듭날 수 있기를 소망한다"며 "앞으로도 전통시장 활성화를 위해 행정력을 모으겠다"고 말했다.
